Has a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, an MA in English Studies and a PhD in Translation Studies, with a dissertation on Subtitling for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing. She is a Professor at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, in Portugal and a visiting lecturer in MA and PhD programs in Portugal, Italy, Spain and the UK. She is a member of TransMedia Research Group  and the leader of two research groups in Portugal – iACT  and TransMedia Portugal. She has carried out a number of action research projects within the field of sensory accessibility (SHD and AD) for television, cinema, DVD, eLearning/Web environments and cultural venues and events (museums, theatre, dance, opera). At present she is working on a post-doctoral research project, at the Imperial College of London, which addresses inclusive communication in museums.

Has a degree in Business Management and a post- graduation in Economics and Business Strategy (School of Technology and Management – IPL, Portugal). She has been working at IPL since 2001 and presently she coordinates IPL’s Financial Management of Projects Office. She has experience in the financial management of several national and international projects.

Holds a master degree in e-Learning Pedagogy, her master thesis focuses the accessibility in e-Learning, especially for blind students. She is now attending a doctoral program in the field of distance education and e-Learning accessibility. She works at Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (IPL). As an instructional designer she plans, develops, implements and supports higher degree and lifelong learning courses. She is one of those responsible for the online tutors’ course at IPL, training teachers to be pedagogically and technically skilled in order to be online tutors. In Universidade Aberta she is professor of higher education course and is trainer of pedagogical courses of lifelong learning, having created the first online course on inclusive virtual environments. She also promotes accessibility and online communication and interaction workshops. She is a member of the iACT Research Center and author and co-author of several scientific papers.
